ARTISANS IN ZANZIBAR NEED SUPPORT
Zanzibar- a beautiful but very poor island in Tanzania- is economically hit very hard by the absence of tourism. There is no work for people who work in the industry or depend on the industry for a living. Due to the lack of income, these people are forced to live below the poverty line.
Originalhome works together with a WFTO fair trade wine bottle recycling workshop in Zanzibar for many years and they could really use some extra support. Although we have been producing with them during the Covid crisis, our workload has not been enough. They have come to a point that they cannot support their workers any longer. With the Aid Through Trade social gift promotion, originalhome raises fund to donate rice (or basic needs) to the artisans in Zanzibar in need.
AID THROUGH TRADE: XMAS & NEW YEAR PROMOTION
The COVID-19 Aid Through Trade promotion supports a dual cause. Upcycled wine bottle project
Our collection of eco design glassware are upcycled from empty wine bottles; a waste product from Zanzibar’s (Tanzania) tourism industry. They are handmade in a small village and support a guaranteed fair trade project for marginalized youth. These craftswoman earn fair wages, learn a craft and are trained in different life skills. On top of that they contribute to the very important waste reduction program on this beautiful but poor island.
