The Candle and Fragrance Crafters from Bali, Indonesia
At the beginning of the pandemic, Chylia, biomolecular scientist by training, started making plant-based, eco-friendly, scented candles for friends. As word spread and interest grew, she seized the opportunity to turn her passion into a meaningful small business: locally made, clean, plant-based, allergy-friendly, biodegradable home fragrances and candles. They are good for the planet, good for people, and good for the local community. She now offers a wide range of candles, wax sculptures, candle holders and home fragrances, which she sells at local Sunday markets and shops in Bali. Working with Originalhome gives her the chance to develop her business more professionally while creating job opportunities for artisanal candle makers.
In her small workshop in Bali, Chylia designs, blends scents, and hand-pours each candle. She is supported by four local women who take care of the packaging and finishing. The workshop is part of a network of female-led businesses who share materials and knowledge, helping each other grow and preserving traditional craftsmanship in rural areas.
