Jute is used as a material for baskets, cushions and placemats. Jute is one of the most sustainable materials as it grows back in four to six months and is extremely durable. Bangladesh is one of the few countries where jute grows widely.

Low impact sourcing & production process

1. Limited water & pesticides

Jute hardly needs pesticides or fertilizers to grow. Farmers grow jute in fields without irrigation and harvest them without the use of machines. The leaves and stems of the Jute plant are being sundried before processing. .

2. Sustainable production process

The workshops of our suppliers are focussing on sustainability during the whole production process. They rely on hands instead of machines, try to use a minimum amount of water, chemicals and electricity.

Creating job opportunities

From harvesting until the end product, the entire process is executed by hand and/or with the support of simple traditional tools. Multiple people have to be involved, which means more jobs and income for the rural communities.
