Waste Wood
Waste wood is used as a raw material for accent furniture such as benches, stools and coffee tables. This wood comes from old boats, barns, houses or trucks. The wood is thus always different and can be Mango, Teak, Acacia or Mahogany wood. Local people recover these pieces of old wood to turn them into sturdy home décor. Absolutely no healthy tree is harmed in the process.
Sustainable & local sourcing
The wood from waste wood products comes from old houses, barns, boats or trucks. Antique remnants such as nails, screws, bolts, holes and filled cavities, join other imperfections that tell the story of its past. The use of recycled wood increases its lifecycle by avoiding it to be burnt or left to decompose but also saves other trees from being cut. The waste wood comes from the island of Java and is recovered in a collection center nearby the workshop.
Environmentally friendly production
The production process is executed by hand or with simple tools using traditional methods of construction which limit the impact on the environment. After collecting the wood, craftspeople sort the pieces of wood by dimension and assemble them into furniture.
Creating job opportunities
From harvesting until the end product, the entire process is executed by hand and/or with the support of simple traditional tools. Multiple people have to be involved, which means more jobs and income for the rural communities.
